Course/seminar
For 25 years, Klyde Consultants AS, represented by Ingolf Fra Holmslet, has held countless courses and seminars in the field of valves. The courses have consisted of fully developed courses, or specially designed valve courses for specific plants/installations.
Ingolf has produced special courses for the onshore facilities Kårstø, Tjeldbergodden, Snøhvit and Mongstad. He has also produced courses for a number of installations on the Norwegian continental shelf, which are designed for problem solving, treatment and maintenance of the installation's valves.
Klyde Consultants AS can offer the following valve courses:
Cooperation with TS Group:
From the autumn of 2019, Klyde Consultants has entered into a collaboration with TS Group where we run valve courses together with me as an instructor. The courses will be arranged at their premises in Porsgrunn. These will be courses in Norwegian and if desired in English.
Currently, 6 valve basic courses have been set up in 2021 that cover the requirements according to the previous OLF guideline 119 valve course now NOG 143-1 + more.

3-5 day basic valve course
The duration of the course is set up according to the needs of the participants, and deals with the basic principles for operation and treatment of the different types of valves: Gate valves – Globe valves – Control valves – Ball valves – Butterfly valves – Throttle valves – Safety valves – Check valves.
Target group: The course is adapted to process personnel, instrument personnel and mechanical personnel, as well as apprentices within the same groups.
Objective: The goal is to provide the course participants with the necessary valve understanding, so that they can safely and satisfactorily handle the valves in the daily operation of the plant.
2 Day Course for Rising Stem Valves
The course covers: Parallel gate valves – Wedge gate valves – Globe valves – Control valves
2 day course for valves with rotary spindle
Target group: The courses are intended for project personnel or managerial personnel responsible for process equipment, processing, selection, operation and maintenance of valves.
Objective: The aim of the courses is to increase the participants' understanding of valves, so that they gain the necessary competence when choosing valves and understand the importance of properly equipped valves. The purpose of the courses is to be able to perform maintenance and problem solving on valves during operation, and thus reduce downtime in connection with valve work. With the right choice and use of valves, it is quite possible to reduce valve-related operating costs by 10-40%.
8 Hour Valve Course for Senior Personnel
In order to be able to offer split valve courses to personnel who do not have the opportunity to set aside time for two consecutive days, you can book two 8-hour courses in different weeks. This applies to the courses: valves with rising stem and valves with rotating spindle.
Target group and Objective: Equivalent to the 2 day courses.
2-8 hour valve seminar
Seminars can be held with a duration of 2 to 8 hours on self-chosen topics regarding valves. Alternative topics for the seminar can be:
- Choice of valves
- Valve maintenance
- Necessary extra equipment on valves
- Valve testing during operation
- Cleaning of valves
- Valve marking
- Spindle Seals
- Selection and use of grease nipples
- Valve sealing principles
- Replacing spindle seals during operation
- Valve Features
- Operating problems on valves
- Cavitation on Control Valves
- Operating problems on control valves
- Installation of valves
- Placement of grease nipples
- Standardization of grease nipples
- The need for auxiliary valves
All courses and seminars can be held for small groups of a minimum of six people or larger groups without upper restrictions. Courses/seminars can be arranged locally, or they can be held in a conference center according to the customer's wishes.
